We are always looking for opportunities to acquire land, form new joint ventures, or place equity funds in projects. Our investment strategy includes direct purchases of real estate and equity financing for builders or developers. We invest in transactions at varying levels of completion: raw land development, land entitlement properties, partially completed residential developments, and finished lots. New home building, Alternative investment opportunities include select fee-build opportunities, a model purchase program, and a program to allow land banking of a builder’s existing assets.
Our flexible capital structure allows Matsons Group to invest in transactions ranging in size and risk depending on the dynamics of a transaction or market. Typically, we work with partners who are relationship-oriented builders, developers, or land owners with high integrity, strong operational and financial controls, and quality reputation within the markets they operate.

As a member of the team, Soban Taj has been in the construction industry for over a decade. He started his career as a teenager, helping on the job sites with cleaning, demolition, and assisting the contractors. As his career progressed, Soban took on a role as home construction site supervisor and managed new home builds as well as building renovations. Since then, his experience has expanded into his own Home Building Business, which oversaw the construction of over 100 homes. Soban has also spent years being mentored by Mr. Rodney Potrie at his Planning Consulting Company “Planning Protocol” designing site plans on AutoCAD and assisting Mr Potrie numerous development projects.

As member of the team, Rodney Potrie is a professional Planner with 35 + years as a member of the Canadian Institute of Planners ( MCIP) and Alberta Professional Planning Institute (APPI), Registered Professional Planning Institute (RPP), a member of Alberta Development Officer Association ( ADOA).
Mr Potrie also holds professional degrees in MCIP (University of Calgary, AB) , BaSc (University of Lethbridge, AB. ) , CET, (University of Kelowna, BC).
Mr. Potrie has designed and obtained approval for hundreds of development projects over the past 35 years. They have been all over Alberta from Lac La Biche to Edmonton, Red Deer, Calgary, Lethbridge, and Cardston. Currently, our firm is processing multiple projects in Alberta. Mr. Potrie has also successfully completed several international projects in Germany, England, Japan, and China Mr. Potrie has project managed several of these national sites through to construction. He has experienced what it takes to see projects become both successful and profitable. Mr. Potrie is also a committed family man. Mr. Potrie is active in several sports as well as being committed to his religion (The Church of Jesus Christ on Latter Day
